She looks shy, and she really is. She acknowledges the fact that it was being a true Harry Potter fan that saw her dream come true after being cast to play the role of Luna Lovegood in the series. “I would have settled for any other role, but I’ve always identified myself with Luna” she declares in an interview.

How was your experience as you was incorporated into the cast?
When I got to the set everyone there were my idols. The movies were already a success. I felt I was with the ‘créme de la créme’ Only having the opportunity to meet Daniel Radcliffe was the best, and it took me a long time to see myself as part of the cast, I felt like a fan. The words didn’t come out when I was with them, I couldn’t be natural. I felt that I had to show everyone what I was worth. I was a fan and suddenly I had to act as if I’ve been with them from the very beginning. But they made things easy for me, they were all very nice with me so I got used to it without much difficulty

What do you have in common with Luna Lovegood?
We’re both open minded, we like to elaborate our own opinions on matters without anyone influencing us. What separates us is that I have my feet planted on the ground. I’d never say I was her because that would mean I’d stop growing. I don’t think she’s in a fantasy world, but her own. Where we should all be.

Luna and Harry with their differences, have a special connection.
It gives the impression that Luna us crazy, but she has a good intuition and see things from an objective point of view. Harry needs her because he’s too distracted by the world, and sees what she doesn’t care that he’s the chosen one. Luna’s very sincere and contributes to Harry clairvoyancy.

If you could make a potion, what would it be?
Definitely Felix Felicis, find the happiness without anyone taking it from you. I love that feeling when you believe in yourself. It’s like when Ron believes he’s drunk the potion. Maybe there’s nothing in Felix Felicis, the secret could be in that it gives you the confidence to do what you want.

There’s a rumour that Rhys Ifans could be cast as Luna’s father, Xenophilius, in the next film.
He’s brilliant. I’ve dared my own father to show up to the casting because he even looks like him, but I don’t think he could act on-screen simply because of how he is. Rhys Ifans is perfect, and very sweet. He was filming one day for the next films and I was on set for rehearsals. We don’t have many scenes together so we don’t see each other often. When he saw me he was wearing his bathrobe and crazy hair, he hugged me and said “I’ve missed you”. He’s charming.

Evanna Lynch read the first ‘Harry Potter’ novel when she was eight years old. Since then, she became a huge fan of the saga. She loved it so much, she saw herself as the only person capable of portraying the character Luna Lovegood – so much so that she wrote to J. K. Rowling and shipped of a video to Warner Bros. They were convinced, and Evanna became the chosen girl, out of 15,000, to play the role. Now, at 17, this Irish admirer of Tim Burton and hardened, has been given a taste of where acting can take her.

Should you not be with your friends, speaking about boys?
I have two seperated lives – it doesn’t happen like it does in the books. There are times when I am at home and I live a normal life.

You seem to be a very mature young lady …
Experience makes you mature. I spent a year in London filming, without my family and that influenced on me.

You’re still a big fan – which habitat acts as your ’sanctuary’?
I painted my room orange and I wrote my favourite quotes.

Does your success owe to any school of talents that you studied at?
I do not believe that [her success] can be placed in anyplace in particular. I center myself very much on who I am and realise what is necessary to support a healthy balance between reputation and reality. I try to be a normal person.

You seem it.
At least, I am with Luna. I said to the producers: you are going to interview many girls and it will be difficuialt to decide, but I identify perfectly with Luna. If you don’t choose me, you don’t know Luna very well.

Do you believe in magic?
Certainly. I like to consult tarot cards and have oracles consult me. For me it works, and allows me to face certain situations.

You’ve done two movies …
Yes, and sometimes I have the sensation that I have imagined everything, especially because I come from a village in Irland and when I return to school, I am with my friends as if it had not happened at all.

And has it given you a taste for acting?
Since I was small, I have done functions with friends, but I never thought about it as a career, as an actress, because I associated the work with something more dificult. Now I have seen that is is hard, but I think I’ll try it.

Some challenge in particular?
It is difficult to think which is going to be the following step, but I need to tackle a more important role. In this one I have not had to strain very much. Everything has gone so fast.

The actress Evanna Lynch, who personifies Luna Lovegood in the ‘Harry Potter’ movie saga, travelled to Palm to present the movie. After winning the role of Luna out of 15,000 applicants, Evanna Lynch made her debut as an actress interpreting the character of Luna Lovegood in the ‘Harry Potter’ saga. Yesterday, during a presentation of the new movie, ‘Half Blood Prince’, she answered our questions.

How was your integration into the ‘Harry Potter’ team?
I was different from the rest of the actors. In school, I’d done drama, but it was more like a hobby – not progessionally. Only one week, after casting, I met the actors. The whole set was very nice and noboty made me feel out of place, ever. My first session was something incredible – to see Daniel there, so close, and then the rest of the cast was very nice. It took me a while to feel natural around them. I was simply one more fan and I had the sensation that I had to do something more to give me the position of an ‘actor’.

Are you still a big fan of ‘Harry Potter’?
Yes, I am still a big fan, I keep on reading the books and I love it, but now it’s different. Earlier, Harry Potter was one of these things that was almost going so far as to define me as a person, but now, I cannot do it for the simple fact that this saga cannot be all my life – sometimes I need to flee this, because in this type of life you meet many fans and the whole world is good to you. So when I return to my house with my friends, I do not want to speak abut Harry Potter – I just want to have a conversation on any other topic.

What feeling does it have on you on receiving fans?
Soemtimes, it keep on seeming to me rare to sign autographs. Some people act in a very emotive way, for example, a girl after a photo is taken away from me and exploded in tears of emotion. On having seen this, I felt very odd, because I had liked that I was known to act on the ‘Harry Potter’ project, but that I am als a fan. Perhaps, for the people who are centered on becoming an actor or a professional actress, they see it from another perspective, but for me, since I was a fan I know that I am not a star of the cinema, but simply a person.

How does the character of Luna act?
In this movie, she is there to help Harry – she is very enthusiastic and she understands the people. Also, I have the feeling that her mind is very active and many things happen to her. On the other hand, Luna is a character who is always there, and sometimes, she cannot enjoy life – that shows another aspect of her character. David [the director of the film] prefers teaching more this side, then the same old one.

The magic of ‘Harry Potter’ does not happen only on the big screen. It was demonstrated yesterday by one of the main protagonists, Evanna Lynch, who gives life to the young character, Luna Lovegood. “On entry, she was my favourite character. Harry saw Launa as different, more mature than the others and very entertaining,” said the actress, during her visit to the spectators of the movie in Ocimax, who all waited for an autograph or photograph with her in the Festival Park.

The 17-year-old Irish young woman was chosen from 15,000 applicants to play one of Harry’s partners from Hogwarts. “In two weeks, I went from a simple fan to an actor,” said Lynch, so nice and shy – she was quite overwhelmed on her first day of shooting. “Those young people were my idols, so there was the impression that I was a simple fan between real actors,” confessed Lynch, who is employed from February in the last movie, where she receives a more leading role.

We get onto the subject of Luna, Evanna corrected the notion of Luna being seen as crazy. “Growing up, we all try to hide something,” she complains, “and we try not to fall into temptation. I’m not trying to cause a rift between me and what other people think, because it is neither possible to change other’s opinions and they mustn’t change yours.”

Her first approach at reading the Potter books was thanks to her mother. “I have always like reading, and she wanted me to read more mature books, so she bought one of the Harry Potter books. I did not want to read the books, but she read a chapter to my brother and I remained hooked,” assures Lynch. “I was eight years old. Since then, my love for these books has grown,” pointed out Lynch, who assures that the fame has only changed her life a little, and for good.

“I had never visited so many countries: it’s madness!” she admits. Also, her studies have also been affected, and is now provided with a tutor to whom she dedicates three hours daily. “It costs a lot, because in a moment you return with a broom to study history,” jokes Lynch, “but when I return to my house – in a small town – all is usual again. Although from now on I will miss the climate of Ireland. I hope to take it with me,” she said yesterday evening.

She has the reputation to be just as eccentric as her and that’s not totally untrue. But above all, Evanna Lynch is a promising actress who wants to further her career after this saga.

What happens to your character in Half-Blood Prince?
The position of Luna has changed in the film. She always had the reputation of being crazy and the other students of Hogwarts mocked her for that. But Harry is no longer ashamed to be seen in her company. From now on he mocks what other people think, he considers Luna to be his friend now, and she is really happy about that. Luna is important to him cause she reminds him of who he is, and helps him find the right track.

You have had the chance to discuss your character with JK Rowling. What has she told you?
She pretty much confirmed what I already knew: even though Luna has an air of craziness about her, she’s actually one of the most sensible characters of the saga. (laughs) She’s actually a lot more calm and brave than she might appear as. Nothing is like it first seems. Contrary to others, the fantastical and dangerous world they find themselves in seems normal to her, and she’s less afraid of death than her friends. She’s never afraid to be unknown and that’s what she’s trying to teach Harry as well.

If Luna had a boyfriend in the Harry Potter world, who would you like that to be?
I’m having doubts saying this cause he’s way too old for her, but I think Dumbledore would be perfect for Luna! (laughs) I know that’s impossible, but looking at their personalities, I think they really fit. They are both really tolerant and attentive to others.

How did your life change while working on these films?
Contrary to what many people might think, it hasn’t changed all that much. It’s true that more people recognize me on the street, but that’s not a problem to me. In my country, everyone is proud that an Irish person can play a part in the Harry Potter adventure. But it’s not difficult to deal with, because while everyone there is proud, Irish people are never too pushy. Paparazzi isn’t our thing. They leave me in peace so my life is pretty much the same.

You’re also studying while working on the films. How does that go?
All my classmates think I’m lucky cause I only have 3 hours of school during a day of shooting. But that doesn’t make it easy, trust me. I travel with a private teacher and I’m his only student, so it’s impossible to sleep in class! (laughs) Lessons are short but very intensive. And it’s sometimes hard to concentrate during a maths lesson before I have to go back and play Luna.

What will you have learned from this experience once the films are complete?
What I learned during filming is that you have the right to make a mistake sometimes. I was terrrified when I missed my step on set the first time, because I was afraid I wasn’t going to live up to expectations. But I learned that no one cares if you’re not perfect. They just ask you to try your best, and to me that’s a really good life lesson.

The eccentric Luna Lovegood, the token funny character and loyal friend of Harry Potter, is played by one other than the Irish actress, Evanna Lynch. The 18-year-old girl, who in 2006 entered the world of cinema for the first time, snapped up the role of Luna Lovegood out of hundreds of candidates. The “magic”, she said a day after the premiere of ‘Half Blood Prince’ in Greece, “is the most beautiful getaway.”

Are there similarities between your character and your own personality?
Yes there are … Luna has the ability to remain calm and to not lose self control and to not ever be cruel, even when she is understood and perceived by others to be eccentric and weird.

You were a great admirer of the Harry Potter series before you won the role?
I lvoe the books and the film series. Before I used to talk about the series and the actors all the time, I used to think I was a part of it. Now the dream has come true.

Would you like to continue to be an actress?
I would love to continue it! I live in a small Irish town where nothing happenes. Harry Potter was the best thing that ever happened to me.

What makes it so special?
It is the magic and the playful imagination. You can escape from your life, which is boring and sometimes embarrassing, into a new world.

What reputation have you gotten from acting in the films?
I would say it is good publicity, but often exaggerated. Sometimes I go home and tell my mother that it is more than I can do and the feeling that this all could be a dream? On the other hand, what the films demonstrate is the enormous power and fanbase of Harry Potter. What happens is that fans do not expect to be a film star, but I believe that you are and become the character you play. I feel safe in that opinion. I am comfortable with the Luna I have created and I am pleased that I am so much like her character.

On the corner, there was excitement, shouting and even some fainting as more than 3,000 people greeted the two ‘Harry Potter’ cast members on Tuesday night. Evanna Lynch and Tom Felton, who play Luna Lovegood and Draco Malfoy, were here in Athens to promote their film ‘Half Blood Prince’ at the premiere in the Village Mall and received an enthusiastic public reaction.

Children at around 15, but some even older than 50, waited patiently to get to close to meet the actors, but also to be photographed with them and to get autographs. Yesterday, the young actors talked about the extremely warm welcome they received and talking about their experiences in participating in the most successful film franchise.

Unlike Tom Felton, who had not read any Harry Potter books when he got the role, the 18-year-old Evanna Lynch (who plays Luna Lovegood) was a massive fan of the books and of J. K. Rowling. Her dedication to the series was a key factor in her audition. ‘Half Blood Prince’ is the second film in which she acts in and is only now starting to adjust. “In the previous film, I felt very strange because I felt that I did not belong there. I saw everyone else as a star. I was so loyal to the fans who could not participate in these films.”

What makes Harry Potter so popular, according to Lynch, is that “Harry has a sense of justice and wants to change things – he also has the power to try. It is because the main protagonists has a good heart. It’s something I found, and people who read the books found, to be really inspirational.”

Lynch confesses that her role model is Audrey Tatou, for both her interpretations and the way she keeps her private life away from the public. Being a part of the Harry Potter case, however, has it’s difficulties. “I live in Ireland and during the filming, I must constantly travel between London and home. I have two lives. I would like to have a home and live there permanently.”

How do you feel the «crazy» your role?
Frankly I do not think that Luna is so «crazy» as it may seem. Just not willing to change itself. It’s just the way I grew up and is happy with it, and some other people would find a little uncomfortable to be so different from others. I think the «crazy» is to want to change yourself and do not feel comfortable with what you are.

If someone takes a quick look at your CV understand that you only play roles for «Harry Potter». How does your future business?
Yes, I have only played in the Harry Potter movies because I liked his books and always wanted to be an actress. I went to acting classes, but I would have gone to the audition if I did not like the story of the books. Therefore I believe that Harry Potter is a dream became reality for me but I have also opened many doors. Working together with agenda and understand that our reputation has grown. Most actors have to work very hard to reach this point and I feel very lucky to be able to make that leap and reach where I am now. Going to school and playing and «Harry Potter» my time was too limited to something special. But just graduated and finished and the Harry Potter movies I hope to get suggestions and of course myself sometime actress.

Do you think your characters in the film could be different than the books?
I think this is a matter of the screenplay but I personally love to go with the book. Even when I audition, cheat very faithful to the book. And any time I felt that I could not pay something right in the film, the director quit.

Many say they see the real Luna through your eyes. What elements of the Luna you like?
Yes I know that many say they look like and take it as a compliment because I respect the «Luna» too. He has inspired and has a great philosophy in which remains calm and unaffected, which is trying to adopt too. I never worried and never angry because I think he believes in fate and that everything will happen as it is meant. I also like that are very perceptive and know that people say that it is «in its own world» but not disappointed at all.

In ‘Harry Potter and the Half Blood Prince’ the Irish 18-year-old Evanna Lynch, finds Luna Lovegood a crazy, intricate learner.

Daniel Radcliffe had this to say about Evanna: “she is the biggest fan of ‘Harry Potter’.” A smile passes on the opalescent face of the girl. “There are so many fans of Harry around the world, but I love thinking that it is me who likes it the most. I began reading it when I was 8-years-old. I could not stop after that. I have a very private link with the series, and I thought I was the only one in the world of Harry Potter. Then I spent hours with the fans on the Internet and I began to feel like a member of a community.” Chosen from 15,000 candidates to represent Luna, an eccentric, Spectrospec wearing witch in ‘Order fo the Phoenix’, Evanna tells of finding ‘Half Blood Prince’ as landing in a menagerie of a magical potion.

By interpreting Luna, as a fan, you crossed to the other side of the mirror …
This makes me uncomfortable, all this adoration. I’ve been on many red carpets and every time, these people who howl, who ask for autographs, I wonder what I did to deserve this! I was a fan, like them, and the situation seems ridiculous now.

How do you explain the success of ‘Harry Potter’ during all these years?
It’s true magic. Me, I used it as an escape from the daily grind. On top of that, unlike the Lord of the Rings, I became identifies with the characters. They have their magic, but it is similar to the devotion to a piano or a violin. They cannot save the world, yet they remain normal people.

How did you react when readin the script, finding out that the character of Luna had been reduced?
Of course, they changed her knack. But there isn’t all that much in comparrison to other characters. Luna still has pretty retorts and while she does not speak, she still has some close-ups.

Did you talk with J. K. Rowling?
Oh yes! She gave me information before the publication! She entrusted in me that Luna would take a more important role, and that she would get marries. I remember we spoke about the potential fiancée, I did not agree with her. I felt like that Luna marries Professor Dumbledore, then it was revealed to me that he was homosexual, and nobody else knew it! I was stunned and on top of that, I could not discuss it with other fans. It would have caused a scandal, then it was bruoght out. I could not betray Jo’s secrets.

When you debuted at the age of 16, you disembarked into this team which had already made four ‘Harry Potter’ movies toegher – did you feel as though you were arriving at Poudlard?
They accepted me as Luna! I was the outsider among the stars. And how would I have been able to be considered next to them? It was the strongest vogue of Harry Potter. Then I started correcting them when they made mistakes in theiir dialogue and when they forgot their lines. Rupert Grint had this habit of leaving lollipops in his mouth, which cause mad, irrepressible laughter. This reassured me.

How do you image life after ‘Harry Potter’?
In the end, there has already been one after ‘Harry Potter’ when the last book came out. I felt an infinite sadness. But Luna teaches you that you should not be allowed to be overtaken by grief, then I realised. I have another year of school, then I am going to try become an actress. I have a dream to work with Tim Burton, but he impresses me so much that I have never dared to approach him – but then he came to the first screenings of ‘Order of the Phoenix’ and ‘Half Blood Prince’!

Kino.dk has talked with the persons behind Ginny Weasley and Luna Lovegood about Potter, being famous and Twilight.

On a hot summer day in Copenhagen Kino. Dk meets Bonnie Wright and Evanna Lynch who plays Ginny Weasley and Luna Lovegood in the Harry Potter and the half blood prince

Even their young age, 18 and 17 are the two teen stars very talkative and answers questions asked by kino.dk users.

It is the first time you are visiting Denmark?

BW: Yes we have been on a a boat trip and the city is very exciting with a lot of exciting actritupure.

EL: the weather is nice and people seem more relaxed than in London.

You have two different roles in the Harry Potter movies. Do you recognize yourself in GW and LL?

BW: I have known my character for so long that it can be hard to separate Bonnie from Ginny, because you take parts of your own personality with you in the role. Ginny is very independent and that I admire about the character.

EL: I am like Luna is very open. We believe things until the opposite is proven and don’t judge things on forehand. Luna is like the opposite of Hermione. Hermione has to read it in a book to believe in it. I believe in magic and angels. But if you reject things, you don’t see them.

Where would the Sorting Hat being placing you?

BW: Haha. I think and believe that it would be Gryffindor and not Slytherin.
EL: I am not sure. I would like to see Gryffindor but I think it would be Ravenclaw like Luna Lovegood.

You all seem like a big family when you see a Harry Potter movie but who are you talking with most?

BW: The Weasley brothers, maybe because we are a family in the movies and them Emma Watson and Evanna. But I am doing fine with all and I hope to keep in contact with more of them when we are done with the movies.

EL. Unlike a school when you have to be friends with those from the class, then it is more easier to find friends on a big set with so many different people. But I am most together with Bonnie, Katie – who is playing Cho Chang and then there are always coming new people you can be friends with

You were only nine when you got the role as Ginny Weasley in the first Harry Potter movie. How much did you know about the Harry Potter world that time?
BW: Nothing! I started reading the book during the casting and then I fell more in the love with the world. When I read the rest of the books I got surprised but happy because Ginny got a bigger role and bigger importance for the plot.

This is a question to Bonnie from Amina, 14. How was it like to be kissing Harry Potter?

BW: Quite strange now when Daniel and I have known each other for such a long time. But it went more eaiser than I thought. Before then I was nervous because it is a moment many fans have been waiting for but I think it works fine in the movie. The scene took two days to film and I kissed him 20 times overall

And then Louse 12, would like to know how do you have time to keep up with school.

BW: We gets 3-5 hours personal tutoring ever day on the set. It can be quite intense because you cannot hide like in a class room. But I have passed the same exams like I would have done if I had going to a real school
EL. I try to come to my school once in while because it is very different here on the set. It is very hard, but they are trying their best to tutor the best they can

Before you got the role as Luna, then you wrote a letter til JK Rowling and she answered?

EL. Yes I wrote to her how much the book meant to me and I told her how much I wanted to play Luna in the movies. And then I got a handwritten letter back from her. She was very nice. She even wrote that she maybe could help me with a role as an extra. I answered, that then I could not play Luna…..

What is the best part and the worst part about being in the Harry Potter movies?

BW: All the experiences you get from being a part of it that is the best thing. The worst, or the most strange is that is such a big phenomenon. It is surreal to be recognized. I don’t get recognized very often that is a problem but I also like to talk with Harry Potter fans.

EL The best is that you are able to say that you are in the Harry Potter movies and then the friends I have got. The worst part is that you cannot be a Harry Potter in the same way as earlier. You need to have a life outside the work. I used to discuss Harry Potter on the Internet but I don’t do it anymore because now there are comments about myself. I loved to be in the line to get cinema tickets and make my own Harry Potter T-shirts. But that is not a very high prize to pay to be a part of the Harry Potter movies.

Then it is that you have to find a new thing to be a fan of . What do you think about the Twilight books?

BW: I have read the first book and I thought that they did a good job with the film. But Harry Potter is better.

EL: It is good books but I don’t think they are so fantastic as Harry Potter. I don’t think they are that good and for a time I were a bit like a anti Twilight. All said it was the new Harry Potter and I don’t agree.

I also tried to read Twilight in hope to find something who could be ’new Harry Potter’ but I had to give up after 40 pages.

EL: You did not like Twilight? I am happy to hear that. It is like the books are written by a girl who is a teen. But that is of course also the charm about it but you can not say they are fantanstic. Did you saw the movie?

Yes. I understand very well why it is so popular but I don’t love it.
EL: Haha. It is also get tiring that Bella all the time is talking about how beautiful Edward is. Get over it.

Last question is from Mikkel, 15. Which Harry Potter book and movie is your favorite?

BW: My favorite books in the last one in the series because everything gets tied together and my favorite movie is the last one because I personal have learnt so much being a part of it. And visual it is also the greatest. The photographer has really done fantanstic work and the music is the best in the series. It is a very well balanced movie and it gives time to the different characters. And then the movie is great farewll to Hogwarts which not really is part of the last two movies

EL. My favorite book is the fiffth one and the last one. In the fifth one Harry learns so much about himself and everybody is expecting so much of him. In the sixth one he much more idenpendent and he does not care, what others think, that thing he learnt in book 5. And he last one I love because all get their big moment. My favorite movie is the last one. It is not driven so much of the plot as the all fans already know but is more about the characters.

The Interview is over. Now Bonnie and Evanna is going to Tivoli before the evening in Imperial where they are going to see Harry Potter and the Half Blood Prince once more if they are going to be sitting.

EL. I have already seen the movie three times and if I see it too many times then I just get tired of it. So maybe I will go outside again when the movies starts
